Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry
To produce competent and skilled Pharmacy professionals to cater to the needs of the Society and Pharmaceutical Industries.
The Department aims at graduating pharmacists with appropriate knowledge and skills to work in the Quality control, Quality assurance and R & D aspects of Pharmaceutical Industries.
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was established in the year 2007. The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to undertake academics in Bachelor and Master of Pharmacy courses. Presently, the Department has research interests in Drug Designing, Molecular Modeling, Synthesis and Biological activities. In the frontier area of medicinal chemistry research, focus will be laid on synthesis, purification, characterization and evaluation of biological activities both by in-vitro and in-vivo models. To strengthen our academic and research potential, we have introduced Computer aided drug design, Docking, QSAR and Molecular modeling based projects in Master of Pharmacy, in pharmaceutical chemistry promoting identification and validation of novel target sites for designing and synthesizing new chemical entities.
To impart a thorough knowledge to the student about different medicinally active principles, their formation, isolation and identification.
To train a student in necessary skills involved in the synthesis of drug molecules in the laboratory and to ensure higher competence in the synthesis of newer molecules.
To train a student to achieve a high degree of proficiency and develop competence involved in the structural modification aimed at improved activity.
To train a student in the usage of common and more advanced instruments such as balances, pH meter, melting point apparatus, refractometer, colorimeter, polarimeter, HPLC, GC, HPTLC, IR, FTIR, NMR and Mass spectrophotometer.
