The Post graduate course was introduced in the year 2009-10. The Department is a recognized research centre for M. Pharm and Ph. D programs, under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.
The Department is well equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories. Facilities are available to isolate, characterize and estimate secondary constituents. The Department has received a sum of Rs. 16 lakh research grants from funding agencies like VGST and RGUHS.

Validation of traditional knowledge in the areas of diabetes, cancer, etc.
Search for acetylcholinesterase inhibitors from indigenous medicinal plants.
Search for aldose reductase inhibitors from folklore remedies for possible management of diabetic complications.
Bioactive compounds from some marine algae.
